After my post for ghostie macarons on Wednesday, I thought I would pay homage to this autumnal time of year through my dark chocolate and apple babka. Anyone who knows me knows I get slightly excited over the apple tree in our garden, but a slightly too liberal trimming last year meant not a lot of the stuff this year. However, this didn’t stop me from salvaging the few that I could, nor will it stop me from recycling old photos as a slightly sad and lame form of nostalgic reminiscing.
Unfortunately since I am, yet again, in a bit of a rush this week, I can’t say that this post demonstrates some of my finest efforts. But, at the end of the day, can you really complain to a sun dried tomato, feta and herb loaf? (My answer is certainly not!).
If you happened to read my blog post for ‘healthy’ matcha, raspberry and honey cake, then you will know that in the next few weeks I am trying to use recipes that have less/ no refined sugar in them in a half hearted attempt to be healthy (I say half hearted because I still snaffle all the traybake cut offs at work *cue ‘Human’ Rag and Bone Man*).
Although I usually class myself as semi-decent at baking, in this post I am instead making some claims towards telepathy and the power of reading minds. If you’re anything like me, you will probably look at this post and one ‘word’ will come to mind: ‘eh?’. However it is with reluctance that I admit that this is a pretty good representation of not only this bake, but my entire week. My brain does seem to have been in a semi-fried state for the last couple of days at least, but this is not stopping me from bombarding you with another post where I think it’s a good idea to bake bread in a cake tin.
Before the dreaded onslaught of Christmas which, let’s face it, has already started I thought I would throw in a token savoury blog post. Since they are few and far between I have to admit that this will probably be the last of the year (*I’ve planned the rest of my posts: they are). My decision to be scarily organised with my posts is a rather harrowing reminder of how quickly this year has gone even though 2016 hasn’t exactly been filled with sunshine and rainbows! Either way, however, I decided I had to make my last savoury post something pretty good and using Marmite was an obvious choice in this household.
This week I thought I would do something a little different on the blog. I have been meaning to host a dinner party for the girls from school since I came back from my ski season a few months ago and decided to take the advantage of having an empty house by finally doing it. Having done the whole rebellious house party thing in sixth form (which my parents found out about it before they even left due to my lack of stealth and tact), I decided this time I would keep things a bit more civilised. In spite of the slight gin-induced hangover the next day, it was lovely to see everyone and have a good catchup.

Since I haven’t done anything wholly savoury on my blog since it started, I thought I should probably broaden my horizons slightly when it comes to savoury flavours. I therefore decided to give making bread another go, partially as a result of bread week on the bake off, but also because it is an area of baking I don’t explore enough. Apart from anything else, no one is going to complain to a freshly baked loaf of bread, so I took the ‘what’s the worst that could happen’ attitude and turned to Paul Hollywood yet again.
