In the last Sunday before my Tough Mudder, I admit defeat by breaking my no sugar streak in utter style. This, of course, could only be done by choosing something that is basically full of the stuff. To be honest, I think this is probably quite a good representation of my training levels in general; I started out with good intentions but, in the end, I’m not actually sure how much further along the fitness lines I really am! But think of it this way, this is at least the penultimate time you’ll have to hear about it; there is always a silver lining!
Although I usually class myself as semi-decent at baking, in this post I am instead making some claims towards telepathy and the power of reading minds. If you’re anything like me, you will probably look at this post and one ‘word’ will come to mind: ‘eh?’. However it is with reluctance that I admit that this is a pretty good representation of not only this bake, but my entire week. My brain does seem to have been in a semi-fried state for the last couple of days at least, but this is not stopping me from bombarding you with another post where I think it’s a good idea to bake bread in a cake tin.
Although I do in some ways feel I need to apologise for the abundance of cake on my blog recently, I feel like I can be forgiven considering the circumstances. Although baking is, on the whole, definitely more subjective I would have to contradict that in this instance: if you do not like the sound of caramel shortbread and cake combined then, I’m sorry, but you’re wrong.
In the wise words of the cookie monster, ‘C is for Cookie, that’s good enough for me’. And, unfortunately for Hayley, it’s going to have to be good enough for her too. My decision to make Hayley a cookie cake for her 23rd birthday was, however, not solely sparked by my desire to use what is the most overused quote in blog posts about cookies, but because I have been meaning to try it for ages. And if you have ever had a birthday cake from Millie’s Cookies, you will understand why. Let’s put it this way: if it’s anywhere near as good as the original Hayley is going to have to make a dash with it before I stop plucking my eyebrows, start taking some testosterone supplements for a more gruff sounding voice and dye myself blue as an excuse for petty cake theft.
Although I hate to tell you this, I have to admit that I lied slightly in my post for Mince Pie Swirls: I may have had all my blog posts planned, but not all of them were Christmas themed as I promised. However, I’m sure you’ll forgive me and be able to take this as some sort of respite from the festive season, especially if you have the same Grinch-like tendencies as I do.
If you read my blog posts you will probably have noticed that, aside from baking, I also talk a lot about drinking! Since I am a Geordie lass this isn’t probably that surprising, but since my effort pales when compared with the likes of Geordie Shore I thought this time I would approach alcohol in a way that dodges the hangovers and accommodates my comparably tame attempts at drinking. Although you may find this hard to believe, I am a little bit obsessed with baking. Therefore, it goes without saying that when it comes to birthdays I get a little bit carried in terms of cake. For the last few years I have always treated my closest friends with cake in some form, and for my friend Lauren it was no exception! I already mentioned in my post for Charlie’s Leaving Cake that she is one of the three musketeers, so naturally I felt I should do something pretty special for her 23rd. Her decision to do a Vegas themed party meant I had my work cut out for me. Hence the ‘Cookies and Cream Loz Vegas cake’ (couldn’t resist the pun).
