Since my imaginative efforts rarely goes beyond sugar, it is probably unsurprising that my go to present on all occasions is something of the baked variety. Since my Dad only asked for flapjacks this Father’s Day, I thought I would spice my recipe up a little to incorporate another of his favourite treats: Florentines.
Apologies for the slight hiatus in the blog the last couple of weeks: since I went a little overboard with a few recipes I found my self so inundated with sugary goodness that even I had to stop! However I am back this week with another of my ‘healthy’ bakes, and it was surprisingly a lot nicer than I even expected it to be! (I’m great at selling this, aren’t !?).
Carrying on with the Italian theme from last weeks Lemon and Rosemary Cannoli, this week I am trying tiramisu brownies. While this version does unfortunately cut out the booze, I would still advise that, if you are on a diet, I would probably give this recipe a miss!
After a couple of weeks of wussing out a little bit with some easy bakes, I finally decided to take things up a notch. In my opinion if it was on GBBO it requires at least some skill, so I’m standing firmly by this in an attempt to prove I do still have some baking skill.
A week after coming back from France it’s safe to say I’m still easing myself back in on the baking front by going for the dessert that probably requires the least amount of finesse possible: eton mess. But, being modest as per, it did taste pretty good, so I personally am not complaining.
So after a winter in working in France I am finally back in the UK, and while it’s safe to say it has been an amazing 5 months I am ready for a detox, a really good sleep and a break from alpine carbs. While I would be quite happy never to see tartiflette or beef bourginon again in my life, I have certainly missed my kitchen and actually being able to bake with any ingredients I want. So, 3 days back in after my friend Jess’s birthday, I have my first post of the Summer for you which has to be the height of originality: chocolate and vanilla birthday cake.
When reading this post I have to admit I would forgive you for thinking I was lacking a bit on the imagination front: while dark chocolate and raspberry is a delicious flavour combo, it isn’t actually anything new. But you know the saying, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it!
